A Unique School Picture Experience
I’m more than just the photographer – I’m an experienced preschool teacher with more than 10 years experience working with children. For picture day you get the best service for the best images because I not only know how to work with the kids for the best expressions, but I understand the unique demands of the preschool setting.
Info for School Administrators
Before Picture Day:
You decide on your background, Carlson Photography provides samples and advertising for the classrooms and the office.
I will work with you to determine a realistic schedule that seeks to minimize disruptions to the academic day. Depending on the size of your school, multiple picture days may be necessary.
On Picture Day:
The day of school pictures, all children are photographed.
Depending on the schedule, each class will come visit me, or small groups of children will be brought to the set. Each child will play a variety of ‘games’ with me while I photograph them – the goal is to distract them from the expectation that they need to “say cheese.”
Some children will be more hesitant than others, and I work hard to make every child feel comfortable in front of the camera, even if it means going a bit off the schedule.
To make the day run smoother, I love to have a parent volunteer or two available to check off the names of childen as they’re photographed & keep track of the shoot order as well as help keep me on schedule by bringing the next class or set of children in. These volunteers are ‘paid’ with a gift certificate to be used for their own child’s pictures.
After Picture Day:
Within two weeks, parents will be able to access an online, password-protected gallery of their children’s images. There, they can select their favorites and place their order. A la carte prints and packages are available.
All orders come packaged in beautiful folders wrapped in ribbon, the prints individually sleeved in clear archival plastic for their protection.
Parents will have the option of selecting to pick up their prints from the school, or to have them shipped to them.

What background will be used?
Two weeks before picture day, there will be sample images using the background your school director has selected for pictures.
What should my child wear?
Solid colored clothing is best. Keep it simple, and avoid distracting choices such as shirts with large pictures or logos. It doesn’t have to be fancy either; Jeans and a simple shirt that go with the background are always a good choice.
Do I have to Pre-Pay for a Package?
No, there is nothing to pay for. No decisions about sizes or packages have to be made until after you see your images.
When will I see pictures?
Approximately one week after picture day, your images will be available for viewing here in Client Proofing.
Do I get more than one picture to choose from?
Yes, usually parents get 3-4 images to select from. Keep in mind that some children are more camera shy than others, so this will vary some.
How do I order pictures?
You will log into your child’s password- protected gallery on the web site through the Client Proofing link, and from there select your favorite images in whatever sizes you desire.
There are several packages to choose from, as well as the option to just order a la carte.
How much do pictures cost?
Preschool pictures have a special school only price list. Images start at $15 for a la carte prints. With packages, you can save 50 percent off regular portrait session prices!
How do I pay for my pictures?
At check-out you have the option to pay online with your credit card, or you can drop off a check to the school, or mail it to the studio.
Can I send family and friends to see the pictures? Can they place orders too?
Yes, you can! Simply send them the link to the web site and give them your access code.
What does the Expiration Date on my gallery mean?
Your gallery’s expiration date is the last day that you can place an order. It is 10 days after your gallery opens.
We do not leave images up indefinitely. After ten days, images will be removed from the site and from the system as we have concluded that you are not planning to order unless you contact the studio to ask for an extension.
My child missed picture day. Can I schedule a make-up?
Yes, we can arrange to bring the studio back for your child. If you would be interested in participating in a make up day, please contact the studio and let me know. Depending on the number of needed make ups, a day and time (or multiple days and times) will be scheduled.
What about siblings? Can they be photographed even if they don’t go to the school?
Please contact me to ask about this possibility – I would love to photograph your other children too, but it will depend on how tight the day’s shooting schedule is.
What if I don’t like my pictures?
After viewing your images, if you don’t like any of them, you do not have to buy them.
You may schedule a make up session if you would like us to try again. Please let the studio know what you did not like about the images: know that the set itself and the standard posing set will not be changing. But “forgot it was picture day” or wardrobe issues are pefectly acceptable reasons for a make up!
