Downtown Family

When Didi contacted me about getting a more urban look to her family portraits, I knew that Old Towne Orange was the place to go!

It has great textures from bricks, great colors, and an “Everywhere USA” feel to it, too.

Didi agreed, and we captured some great images that she loved – from the family posed against different walls and doorways, to the kids goofing off and having fun with sunglasses and hats…

Here’s a few of her favorites (and mine too- she has great taste!) – enjoy!

Old Towne Orange Kids

Playing some more blog catch up today from the Fresh Faces mini sessions…

Brielle and Jadon rushed to great me when they arrived for their session, and were fascinated by watching Taylor finish up her shoot with me… in fact, Bri was so loving at one point she climbed into my lap while I was photographing Jadon!

Jadon wanted to run about and goof off, but he also wanted to be the star of the session and have me only play with him… which meant having to stay put for a few minutes, but with the promise of a lollipop at the end, we channeled his fun loving attitude into some great images that I know Mommy is going to love.

Poor Brielle got scared of my “silly Elmo” when he came up to “give kisses” and was terrified of him for biting her  … so I put him in my bag in “time out” and that reassured her that everything was okay again, until I went to get out the lollipops and then she was upset that Elmo was coming out again to get her!  He really is quite nice and most of my toddlers demand that I give him up so they can have a turn playing with him, so it was an interesting experience for both of us. But with some extra silliness on my end we got her dancing about and being adorably happy again, and the end result is that beautiful Brielle smile that I love so much.

Mommy’s already seen the images, but I had to share them with everyone too since these kids are always so cute!

Taylor – Old Town Orange

Taylor arrived for her Fresh Faces Mini Session in a pillowcase style dress her mom made for her and the moment I saw her I thought, “wow, that looks like a skirt I have…” and when she reached me I saw that it was, in fact, the same pink and white layered skirt that I own. Her clever mother had found one somewhere (I discovered mine at a thrift store, so what are the odds?) and cut it up and made it into a dress instead!

It became a great joke in the session: whenever Taylor started getting the forced smile on her face, I’d tease her about her wearing my skirt, and she’s pop back in with a great authentic grin.

Oh, and that amazing hat she’s wearing… her grandmother made it!

Taylor was quite determined to make sure she danced in the dress – she is a dancer after all – with its fullness she was able to get some amazing fabric height in her spins… and the challenge was slowing her down enough to not have the dress flying everywhere!

So here’s a a few favorites I wanted to showcase – amazing job as always Taylor!

Devyn – Future Top Model

First up on Sunday’s Fresh Faces Mini Sessions was Devyn, a poised 10 year old who’s definitely watched way too much of “America’s Next Top Model” because  she was amazing to work with (as always).  Her mom told me she’d been practicing her posing beforehand, including her new sassy attitude pout.

Devyn wasn’t the only one to come prepared, Mom had been holding onto “the dress” for 2 years now just waiting for this perfect moment, and also made the hair ornament herself.  She was also queen of the props, bringing along the beautiful parasol and the fun hat.

One of the things I love about Devyn is that she’s incredibly confident of herself, but also doesn’t let it interrupt her fun.  I was gushing to her mom about how gorgeous Devyn looked in the dress, and what amazing eyelashes she had.. and in the middle of it Devyn looks at me and says “I have  a pink golf club.” Yep, that’d Devyn: gorgeous and too busy living life to let it go to her head.
