Cats in Need Update

Since I started photographing cats up for adoption with the nonprofit organization Cats in Need, I’ve met 38 wonderful cats and kittens that need forever homes. I’m happy to report that 17 of them have been adopted and gone to great forever homes!

There are others, such as JR picture to the right, that have just been rescued from the streets or from abandonment, who are being showcased right now at the Yorba Linda, CA PetSmart on Saturdays and Sundays (12pm-4pm) and can also be seen on PetFinder.com and on the Cats in Need-YL Facebook page.

While I was there last weekend, I was a part of sending Jax off to his newly discovered family. This handsome orange tabby with a loving, cuddly personality was a little scared when they came in to meet him, but after being held by his new potential human daddy, Jax was as happy as could be – he started purring and kneeding with pleasure right away and sealed the deal that minute!

In addition to making sure every cat up for adoption gets a “head shot”, this weekend my husband and I took on a foster kitten through Cats in Need. Little Dano (we’re calling him “Daniel” as he needs to work on his dignity and be less of a scaredy kitten) is a 4 month old feral who needs a lot of socialization.  He’s a hider, he’s quiet, and he’s not too sure about this people thing. He does like my husband (who held him for an hour two weeks ago while the boy napped in his arms in the PetSmart cat room) and he was happy in the baby sling with me for a bit.

At the moment, he’s hiding under the bed. The good news is that our own four have been pretty accepting of the new baby in their midst. So far, we’ve avoided the expected drama. I’m hoping that they’ll be great models of human cuddling and shown Daniel that people are good for more than opening cans of food.

If you’d like to get involved, there’s several ways to help:

  • Donate some time: volunteers are needed to help staff the adoption fair on the weekends, as well as come in mid week to play with and clean up after the kitties.  Teen volunteers needing community service time are welcome too. Contact Cats in Need by email to get started.
  • Donate supplies: Cat food (dry and wet) and liter is always welcomed.  So are toys, cat beds, and combs and brushes. Even packs of printer paper help offset the costs!
  • Donate money: As a 501(c) charity, your money is not only tax deductible, its going to help the kitties with things like vet bills (shots and spay/neuter) as well as the costs of general food and liter care.  You can donate securely online or in person in their donation box during the weekend adoption shows.
  • Spread the word: Know someone looking for a cat? Encourage them to check out the kitties up for adoption to find the right match for them. Come “like” Cats in Need:Yorba Linda Branch on Facebook, and encourage your friends to do the same.

Screamin Daily Deals FAQ

This is the frequently asked questions page for today’s Screamin Daily Deal.

The deal is $49 for a regular photo session & 11×14 mounted print with Carlson Photography. Regularly priced at $195;  by purchasing this package with Screamin Daily Deals you’ll save 75%!

This deal does expire tonight at midnight, and once its gone, its gone!

What’s Included?

*Session Time for a regular family or child(ren) session at an Orange County location such as a local park, the beach, or even in your home. I can photograph your family outdoors in the beautiful California weather, or I can bring my portable studio to your home for your session.

*Your choice of one image from the session as a mounted 11×14 print.

What’s Not Included?

Sales Tax – California state sales tax on the $49 – $4.29 – is due at booking.

Extended family sessions, newborn sessions, and high school senior portrait sessions have additional fees. See below.

All other prints, proofs, digital files, canvases and gifts are purchased separately. For a complete print pricing list, please click here.

What is a typical session like?

My family sessions are typically one hour. During that time we get through a lot of different groupings: Mom, Dad & Kids all together; kids together, Mom and Kids, Dad and Kids, Mom and Dad together, and individuals of each child.

The needs and ages of the children involved typically drive our session pace. We take breaks as needed, and my goal is to keep it fun for everyone.

If we’re just photographing the children without the adults, I will usually do several variations of the children together, as well as individuals.

When do we get to see our pictures? How do we place our order?

After your session we’ll set up a time for me to come to you to view your images. This ordering session takes place about a week after your session. When I come I’ll bring sample images and sizes, and we’ll go over wall portraits, session albums, gifts, and other goodies and narrow down your image choices to your favorites.

Once you have ordered, it usually takes about two weeks for your prints to arrive. Completion time for other products will vary depending on the items ordered. You can choose to have your order shipped directly to you, or to pick it up from my residential studio.

I want you to photograph my extended family. Can you do that?

Yes, I can! The package with Screamin Daily Deals is for an immediate family session, but you can upgrade your package later to an extended family session for $100.

We’re expecting a new baby, can you photograph our newborn?

Yes, I can! Newborns are best at under four weeks, with two weeks or less being the ideal time frame. We want to capture them at their smallest and newest. I’d be glad to bring my portable studio to you so we can take care of your little one’s first photo session in the comfort in your own home. Your package with Screamin Daily Deals can be upgraded to a newborn session for an additional $25.

A typical newborn session can last from 1 to 3 hours. During these sessions I love to focus on not only the new arrival, but on his/her relationship with Mommy and Daddy: close ups of baby cuddling with them, being held by them, and being celebrated. If this is not your first baby, I can also incorporate the big brothers/sisters into the session as well.

I have a high schooler who will be a senior next year. Do you do Senior Sessions?

Yes, I do! With seniors I love to work on location (park, beach, or in an “old towne” setting) and combine multiple outfit changes with the beautiful locations for some fun portraits that are as unique as your teen. A typical senior session takes 1-2 hours. You can upgrade your Screamin Daily Deals package to a senior session for an additional $25.

I don’t want the 11×14 print. Can I substitute it for another item?

The deal with Screamin Daily Deals is a package deal and there are no substitutions.

I’ve bought my coupon, now what?

Within 24 hours of your Screamin Daily Deals purchase they will have emailed you your coupon for the session. Make sure you print a copy so that you can present it at your session.

Photo sessions are by appointment only. Call the studio at 714 202-6113 or email stefanie@stefaniecarlson.com so we can put you on the schedule.
