Am I Crazy?

Probably not.

I LOVE newborns, and after working as an instructor at The Art of Pregnancy & Newborn Photography (TAoPaN)’s workshop this past weekend, I’m committed to photographing more newborns more often!  I also just went prop shopping with newborns in mind and have some new goodies I really want to test out.

Train Birthday Party

Last week I was photographing with BKids Birthday Parites at the Coyote Hills Country Club in Fullerton, CA.

Little Kai was turing three, and his family celebrated the occasion with a party!  This Thomas the Tank Engine obsessed boy had a party fit for Sir Topham Hat- from the balloons to the cupcakes, this party was about a little engine with big adventures and the boy who loves him so.

Kai and I got along great, playing trains on the rug while we waited for the guests, and giggling away. And he LOVED my fake sneezes, they were guaranteed to get a smile every time.

So here’s a few favorites from the party to share. Enjoy!

Lots of (Feline) Babies!

Kitten season has officially begun down at Cats in Need, where I make sure every cat up for adoption has a professional “headshot” on display.

To the right is little black “Crybaby” who was adopted with sister Lovebug within ours of their debut at PetSmart Yorba Linda a few weeks ago.

Below are “Mama Midnight”‘s 4 babies – 2 sets of twins – Velcro & Einstein and Princess & Sweet Pea. Mama isn’t all that old herself, barely 8 months, but she’s done a great job taking care of her 4 little ones.

Midnight’s babies are just 8 weeks old, and everyone in the family is currently up for adoption through Cats in Need.

This beautiful black kitty is Mama Midnight, practically a baby herself.

I also met Tootsise and Titan, two adventuresome kittens who are just 12 weeks old.

And just this last Saturday I met a “Spy vs. Spy” pairing of 12 week old babies: Luna & Baby Midnight

Introducing Max – 15 Days New

Max William was a treat to photograph – he was a great sleeper, and even gave a couple little smiles!

Nicknamed “monkey” by his loving mommy & daddy, his room was done up like a little jungle, with monkey designs and decorations and bedding…. it was so cute! So of course when it came time to do a bit of the “prop” photos, I borrowed goodies right from his room!

Everything you see was photographed right in their living room – so no one had to leave the house – and I brought all the backdrops and lighting to make it just like a portrait studio… without the commute.

Love the images? Check out the full slideshow of images on the Carlson Photography Facebook Page (no account required).  Mommy watched it and said it made her cry…. that’s how much she loved it.

Kids at the Park

I met up with Jana and Joel for a park session recently, and we had a lot of fun playing and goofing around… and trying to get Joel to smile!

This determined little man wanted to anything except pause for pictures, and it wasn’t until we’d played on the playground a bit, snacked on Smarties doled out one at a time, and gotten very creative about climbing on picnic tables and playing ‘jump’ (nothing like breaking the rules to get great expressions!) that we had the shots Mommy wanted.

Jana was a posing princess and wanted to help her brother stay put, but he didn’t want any help and he certainly didn’t want to stay put. And yet, despite what may sound like a disaster… we have beautiful images for Mommy’s walls, and we really did have a good time at the park!
